In the tradition of the last five RMCs, this year we are seeking a small team of dedicated fungi-lovers to help prepare the event’s site in exchange for a full pass to the Convergence and access to a special workshop. This pre-RMC work party and get down we lovingly call Fertile Substrate has become an essential step in ensuring that the RMC runs smoothly – one that we invite you to join us at this fall!
After arriving on the evening of Friday, September 30th, attendees will be greeted with a communal potluck dinner, a workshop, and space to meet new friends. Saturday and Sunday will be full days of helping with a variety of tasks around the site, which may include:
This essential work not only ensures a more immersive RMC for all, but also an opportunity for attendees seeking experience in coordinating educational events to gain valuable skills. Saturday night, attendees will get to enjoy a time to rest under the stars with their fellow Substrate Builders.
Whether you are a professional carpenter, have experience organizing events, or have never set up an event before, we welcome you to apply and join us! We will be selecting applicants based on their skill set, with the intention to combine Substrate Builders of all experience levels and backgrounds.
If your application is accepted, we will ask that you pay a $50 non-refundable RMC Volunteer Impact Fee using a credit card within one month of being notified, or by September 1, whichever comes first. In the event that you cancel your attendance or do not engage for the entirety of Fertile Substrate's two work sessions (approximately 8:30am to 7:30 pm Saturday and Sunday), you will not receive a full pass to the RMC.
At Fertile Substrate, Saturday and Sunday's breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided for an additional $25 per day.
In the days between Fertile Substrate and the start of the RMC (Monday, Oct. 3– Wednesday October 5), Substrate Builders who express a desire to stay on site may be offered the chance to do so in exchange for continuing to help prepare the land for the RMC and/or help Brown Bottle Farm with their preparations. Substrate Builders not wishing to continue working after Fertile Substrate will not have the option to stay on site during those weekdays.
Applications have been reopened!
